3M Double-sided Tape and Promoter
12" of 3M automotive acrylic tape & 2 promoter tubes to install an additional
6 - 8 LED lighting fixtures.
We're now offering promoter in these tubes due to problems with the envelopes we show in the video drying out. Just crush the tube at the dot to moisten the applicator with promoter then "paint" it on your clean mounting surface where you plan to attach the tape. Be sure to promote the surface of your LED lights themselves before attaching tape to them. Do not get this product on your hands. Be sure to read the product handling warnings, as it's a very strong chemical. Always apply 3M promoter to any surface that the tape will touch. It acts as a primer and ensures maximum adhesion. The key to excellent tape adhesion is a properly cleaned and promoted mounting surface. Watch the video below for more information.
Here's an email Christine shared with a customer answering the questions as to why we switched from the envelopes with promoter pads to the little tubes that are a bit more difficult to maneuver in some of the tighter mounting locations:
The little sachets with the primer have a very, very short shelf life. They are shipped from CA to distribution points throughout the US. If these containers are exposed to heat or cold, the product on the towelette dries and there's no way to tell from looking at the sachet if the product inside is usable. In the few years that we did use this product, we'd be constantly mailing more sachets to our customers - without knowing if the product was good or not and unfortunately, many times even that was useless. And of course the manufacturer/vendor wouldn't replace the product - it was always a lose/lose situation. They knew about the fragility of this item but couldn't control the temperature of the containers once it left their plant. They even blamed the defect on the fact that they couldn't control the temperature in our warehouse and that could be where this product was disintegrating. Our vendor grew so tired of these problems that he stopped offering 3M products altogether. Now you're going to say, "Why didn't they change the material of the sachet?" - because the primer is so toxic, it will burn through most plastics (trust me, I've tried this). If they made sachets can could handle the chemicals, then 3M would have a problem with discarding hazardous/non green material. Being in CA, this is a huge issue for them.
